Interesting hats on the bridesmaids—almost like nurses’ caps. And doesn’t it surprise you that there were such elaborate wedding in the midst of the Depression?
I too thought the hats were very much like nurses caps. It’s a very interesting question. Her mother had passed away in 1933 and her father had an ice delivery route/coal as so many of the family did. My only thought at this time is that many of the families banded together to provide these weddings.
That could be. I don’t know. Was this in New York? Do you follow Emily Ann Frances’ blog? She writes a lot about Italian families in NYC in the 1930s, so she might know.
It’s a great blog, and she has lots of great background information about the social and economic factors of life in that era. You should definitely find it. Beyond the Byzantine Gate.
This was right during the Depression. Very impressive!
